M103A2, US Main Battle Tank, Plastic Kit, 1/35.

The M103A2 is the evolutinary end of the so called M60 family.

The M103 was developed in the Cold War days as a 70t heavy battle tank with 11m long 120mm barrel main gun as a counter part to soviet developments.

It soon showed that the tank had less engine performance and some other problems too.

Therefore only some of the total built 300 M103A1 tanks were converted to the A2.

They got a bigger engine and the same engine compartment like the M60.

The development of the M60 finaly made the M103 obsolate and it was only used by the Marines until it was retired in the early 1970s, whithout ever having seen combat.

The M103 is still an interessting tank development which beared a lot of expiriences that later lead to the M1 Abrams.

It is also remarkable that all modern main battle tanks weight about 70 t and have a 120mm main gun.

The kit comes with a machined metal barrel, clear parts, workable tracks, movable suspention and tracks.

All hatches can be built in open or closed position.
