The tank destroyer Marder III, based on Pz.Kpfw 38(t), was manufactured in two versions:
Marder III Ausf.H and Ausf.M.
Marder III Ausf.H based on the chassis of Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) Ausf.H and carried a 7.5 cm PaK40/3 L/46.
The crew consisted of 4 men: a driver, a commander and two gunners.
The engine of Marder III was always installed in a back engine compartment.
The combat compartment for the crew was protected from the frond and both sides, but open at the top and back.
The armor of the Marder III Ausf.H varied between 8 and 50 mm.
BMM manufactured 243 Marder III Ausf.H between November 1942 and April 1943, followed by 175 Pz.Kpfw 38(t)s converted in 1943.
Marder III Ausf.H was used in Panzerjäger Abteilungen until end of 1942.
It could also be fund in units of the Waffen SS, like the LSAH or Luftwaffe like Division Herman Göring.
